Scams on Autotrader.com and AutotraderClassics.com?

It seems that some folks are trying to exploit those that are trying to get a good deal on their dream car. Some unscrupulous people are posting fake ads on Autotrader.com and AutotraderClassics.com to try to lure people. They have some hot car with a great price. If you email them then they say email us your full name and address so that they can start the transaction through eBay (or Autotrader) and neither of those companies act as escrow companies. Above is a good example (I Googled the phone number listed and it is a fax number for CA governor's office). $22,000 for a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo with 33,000 miles is a little too low... I hope people are not being caught by these scams and giving up their hard earned money hoping for a dream car to be shipped to them... Cheers.

Frankfurt Auto Show 2009 Day 1 Highlights

Here are some highlights from day 1 of the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. From all the new supercars who would think that we were in a recession? I suppose it's good timing that Ben Bernanke is saying that the recession might be over and that investors.com is saying that we're in a confirmed market uptrend. Cheers.

Spyker C8 Aileron test drive

Test driving the all new Spyker Aileron today was amazing. I drove one of three of the pre-production prototypes on the back roads near Redmond, Washington. I had about a half an hour to play on our route and get a feel for the car.

This beautifully designed car is not just eye candy either. It zips from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and weighs in at just 3142 lbs. It has well balanced suspension that handles the bumps nicely but also hugs the corners well. A model with a Tiptronic automatic and paddle shifters was what I drove. It's not the e-gear variety so it is supposed to be smoother at low speeds but still quite fun for spirited driving. It has a 400 hp Audi sourced and Spyker tuned V8 engine with 354lb/ft of torque and a great exhaust note too. It was quite fun to drive on the back roads. 187 mph is its top speed but sadly I didn't have a chance to verify that. The steering was very responsive. Despite the car not having aides like traction control or stability management it wasn't challenging to drive. The 4 piston brakes work nicely too. Since the powertrain is from Audi I would imagine that these cars would be reliable as well.

One funny moment at a stop sign was that a lady in her SUV in front of us came out of her car, came back to ask us about the car on her way to yoga, and then let us pass her so that we could catch up with our group.

Check out the gallery below for more views of this stunning automobile (source - Spyker). The interior is really quite nice and styled in an aeronautical theme.

Thanks, to David at Park Place for taking me on the drive and the folks from Spyker for organizing this event. Cheers.
