Gumball 3000 Rally - 2009 Route Announced!

According to the crazed rally blokes themselves, below is the 2009 Gumball 3000 route winding through the grand ole U.S. of A..
"Following the success of this year's 10th Anniversary rally from San Francisco to the Beijing Olympics, Gumball is going back to its roots next year with a classic coast to coast road trip.

From sea to shining sea, the 2009 route will leave Los Angeles on 1st May before rounding off in Miami seven days later - following en route party stops in Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Santa Fe, Dallas, and New Orleans."

Do you have the cash, the guts, and driving skills to give it a go? Unfortunately, I'm a bit short on the cash... Cheers. [image source - Gumball3000.com]

Buy yourself a former F1 car!

CarClassic.com has a former Lamborghini F1 car for sale. It's listed as a Lamborghini F1 - Formula 1 F1 Larousse Lamborghini LH93. So, it sounds like for the mere cost of $47,000 USD you can purchase the car and then for another 80,000 Euros you can have two spare engines and drivetrains. Whew! No problem, right? :) Don't we wish? It sure would be sweet to rip up the local tracks with this beauty though. Cheers. [image source - CarClassic.com]

World Rally Championship takes cost cutting measures

In these hard economic times even the WRC is taking some cost cutting measures. Apparently they are attempting to make rally racing a bit more affordable by going the spec route. It still doesn't sound cheap though. For example, an add-on kit for the cars costs 30,000 Euros! It will still be fun to see them rip it up next year though. Click through the WRC link above for more details about the cars for next year. Cheers. [image source - wikimedia.org]

Will the "big" 3 auto bailout work?

It sounds as if that the U.S. Congress is going to loan them the money first before the companies make changes. Perhaps time is of the essence in this situation. However, it would be better if these companies showed some "good faith", efforts of looking into matters well, and due diligence. Congress bailed out Chrysler in 1981. So, this begs the question will this bailout work? What do you think? Cheers. [image source - wikipedia]

Maserati MC Sport Line

Maserati now has its sport MC Sport Line available. Some may call it "the poor man's Ferrari" but I think it looks pretty cool. The stock GranTurismo S has a 4.9 second 0 to 60 mph launch speed. So, I would expect this version to be a little quicker. Here's some information from their site about this Italian stallion.

"The carbon fiber door sill bearing the words “MC Sport Line” tells you that you are entering a different environment, in which carbon fiber characterizes the door panels, dashboard and central tunnel.

The steering wheel rim is also made from carbon fiber, as are the control stalks for the electro-actuated transmission and the body of the instrument panel, dashboard and door panels, featuring carbon molding. Looking at the central tunnel, carbon fiber dominates the entire section, acting as a backdrop to enhance the brilliance of the chrome.
The “MC” pedal block complete with kickplate to the left is machined from a solid aluminium piece.

Under the “skin”, the suspension has been stiffened thanks to new, stiffer springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars; the new suspension set-up is synchronized with a specific Maserati Stability Program software, allowing the driver more freedom. The car is now 10 mm lower than the GranTurismo S, resulting in a performance on the road of the GranTurismo S that is absolutely uncompromising in terms of handling and driving enjoyment."

Anyone know how reliable these beauties are? Cheers. [image source - maserati.com]

This video shows that yes you can tandem drift around the lovely Forza 2 tracks. The filmaking is pretty impressive for just using game footage. Check out the Forza site to see how they made this film. There are also some cool drifting tutorials on their site too. At least you don't have to pay for the tires and nitrous when you're drifting in the Forza 2 world. Cheers. [video source - YouTube]

Factory Five GTM Supercar

The Factory Five GTM Supercar delivers monstrous performance for a reasonable price. 0-60 in 3.0 seconds, 0-100 in 6.6 seconds, and 1/4 mile in 11.0 seconds @ 132 mph! What does it cost you ask? The kit price starts at $19,990 and they are currently offering $2,000 off too. You would still need a Corvette donor engine as well as other parts (full list on their site). If you find out that a 6'6" tall person can fit, please let me know. YouTube seems to have loads of videos about them too. Cheers. [image source - wikimedia.org]
